500 hour Yoga Teacher Training Workshops

Prerequisite: Ajna's weekend courses are designed as advanced teacher training modules for the 500 hour Professional Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga Certificate. To work toward your 500 hour designation, you must register in the 500 hour Professional Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga Certificate Course.

However, any yoga teacher or teacher in training may register for an RTY 500 workshop as a Continuing Education Credit (CEC) for the Yoga Alliance
 

 

Tuition

Tuition for each workshop is $300.

All participants of Ajna advanced courses are awarded with a certificate stating that they have successfully completed 20 hours in the particular topic. This certificate can be submitted to the Yoga Alliance for Continuing Education Credits (CEC).

In this workshop, we will learn about the anatomy of the spine, including the function of vertebrae and the major muscle groups that support the spine. We will look at common back issues including sacroilliac joint pain, sciatica, scoliosis, degenerative disc disease and muscle strain.

Inversions and hand balances have particularly therapeutic benefits, when done appropriately and adapted for the individual. This workshop will further your own understanding of your body in inversions and hand balances. We will also look at the many ways we can adapt inversions and hand balances to make them accessible for all of our students.

Core strength -Instructor Maria Filipone

We often hear how important it is to develop ‘core strength’, but what does this mean as yoga teachers? Where is this ‘core’ in the body? This weekend will guide you though the anatomy of the core and teach you appropriate core strength asanas that you can use with any of your classes. An emphasis will be placed on safe core work for people with limited strength and flexibility.

Hips & Shoulders - Instructors Jules Payne and Michelle Schroeder

Explore the proper alignment, stability and mobility of our two largest joints. One full day will be devoted to each. Deepen your understanding of your body and identify common tendencies of the hips and shoulders in yoga poses.

Pre/ Post Natal Yoga and Mom & Baby Yoga - Instructor Michelle Schroeder

A thorough look at the changes in woman’s body during each trimester of pregnancy and how yoga poses, breathing techniques and meditation can be applied therapeutically. In the post- natal portion of the weekend, we will examine how yoga can be adapted to fit this new, busy time a woman’s life. The mom & baby portion will look at imaginative ways to include the new family member into a woman’s yoga practice and how mom & baby yoga classes can provide support to a new mom.

Teaching to 50+ students-Instructors Jules Payne and Lisa Banks

How can yoga build strength and flexibility for the growing 50+ population? What are the specific health concerns for yoga teachers to be aware of and how can postures and flow sequences be adapted? We will look at how to sequence hatha yoga on the mat and special sequencing for chair yoga. We will examine specific health issues such as arthritis, blood pressure, osteoporosis and lung issues. Included in this component are asanas, pranayama, meditation, mantra and mudras geared to the 50+ age group.

Teaching Backbends and Forward Folds - Instructors Jules Payne and Michelle Schroeder

A flexible, strong spine is a healthy spine. In this workshop, we will experiment with many variations of backbends and look at how to sequence them into our classes. We will also look at the therapeutic physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of opening the spine,
